Established in 1884 by the wonderfully playful Portuguese designer Rafael Bordallo Pinheiro, the brand that bears his name has become something of an institution in his native country thanks to his iconic cabbage leaf pottery. The brand uses traditional techniques to make its inimitable ceramics, drawing inspiration from organic forms to create green cabbage plates and platters, red pepper tableware, leaf-shaped dishes, citrus dinnerware and more. Bordallo Pinheiro’s artistic earthenware has many techniques and procedures (some of them centuries old), that are responsible for the final product and artistic quality. The intangible heritage of Bordallo Pinheiro has passed down to later generations of ceramic workers, and through the teaching of ceramics techniques is protecting the centenary long knowledge which represents real treasures of our history and culture.
