Relaxound Zirpybox Oak: The Sound of Summer Crickets for a Calmer Home

Some of the nicest things in a home are the ones you do not expect. You step into the hallway after a long day, and instead of silence you are met by the soft chirping of crickets on a warm evening. A minute or two later, the sound fades and the house is quiet again. That small, surprising pause is the whole idea behind the Relaxound Zirpybox Oak, one of the most charming objects on our shelves at House of AnLi.

What is the Zirpybox Oak?

The Zirpybox is a compact sound box by Relaxound that brings the summery sound of chirping crickets indoors. A motion sensor detects when someone walks by and starts the natural chirping, which stops automatically after about two minutes. There is nothing to switch on, no app to open and no playlist to choose. The moment simply arrives, and then it leaves.

This version comes in an elegant oak design. The warm wooden finish gives it a natural look that sits comfortably in modern apartments and more rustic interiors alike, so it reads as a decorative object first and a piece of technology second.

Why a little cricket song changes a room

We spend a great deal of time making our homes look calm: soft linen, natural wood, a candle on the table. Sound is the part we often forget. The gentle chirp of crickets instantly evokes a relaxed summer feeling, and because it lasts only a couple of minutes it never becomes background noise. It is a short invitation to slow down, at home or in the office.

It is also a lovely way to bring a touch of the outdoors inside, all year round. Guests almost always stop, smile and ask where the sound is coming from.

Where to place it

The Zirpybox is wireless and compact, so it is easy to place wherever you like. A few ideas from our team:

• The entrance. Set it on a console by the door so it greets you, and your guests, each time someone comes home.
• The guest bathroom. A favourite spot. The sound starts as the door opens and adds a spa-like note to the smallest room in the house.
• A reading corner or study. Let it mark the beginning of a quiet half hour with a book or the start of the working day.
• The bedroom. Place it where you pass on your way to bed, as a signal to leave the day behind.

For the best experience, choose a quiet room where the natural sound can be heard clearly, and a dry, stable surface away from direct sunlight and humidity.

Styling tips: making it part of the picture

The oak finish makes the Zirpybox easy to style. On a hallway console, group it with a vase of stems and a small tray for keys. On a bookshelf, let it sit among books and a photo frame so it disappears into the arrangement until it sings. In a bathroom, pair it with a scented candle and a stack of guest towels for a calm, considered corner.

If you enjoy the idea, the Zirpybox has friends. The Heidibox Oak Wood shares the same warm oak look, and the Zwitscherbox Satellite Classic comes in a choice of sounds including Wind Chimes, Song Thrush, Nightingale and Blackbird. You will find them all in our Decorative Objects & Wall Art collection.

An original gift for someone who has everything

The Zirpybox Oak is one of those rare presents that suits almost anyone: the friend who loves nature, the colleague with a busy desk, the parents who are impossible to buy for, the host who already owns every candle. It is unusual, useful in its own gentle way and beautifully made. As the festive season approaches, it is worth keeping in mind for a housewarming or as a Christmas gift, and you can browse more ideas in Gifts & Lifestyle.

Care and good to know

• Clean with a dry, soft cloth to remove dust. Avoid damp cleaning products, which can harm the wooden surface.
• Keep it in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and humid environments.
• If the sound becomes softer or the sensor responds less well, it is time to replace the batteries.
