Arthur Zaaro Cutting Board: A Singapore-Made Solid Wood Board to Chop and Serve

Some kitchen pieces are bought once and used every day for years. The Arthur Zaaro Artisanal Cutting Board is one of them. It is one of the most-loved pieces at House of AnLi, and it has a story that feels close to home: each board is hand-crafted from solid, sustainable hardwood sourced right here in Singapore.

A Singapore-made cutting board with a story

Arthur Zaaro works with urban-sourced tropical hardwood: timber from trees that come down in the city, rather than wood felled from forests. That means the board makes no contribution to deforestation or natural habitat loss, and every piece carries the grain and character of a tree that once grew on our island.

Because each board is made by hand from a single piece of wood, no two are quite the same. The colour, the grain and the size vary from board to board, which is exactly what makes them such personal pieces to own or to give.

Why a solid wood board is worth it

Many wooden boards are made from strips glued together. An Arthur Zaaro board is solid wood, not glued, so there are no seams that can loosen or come apart over time. It is finished with a food-safe oil, so it is ready to use from the day you bring it home.

  • Solid wood: one piece, not glued together, so it can't come apart
  • Two working sides: one for chopping, the other for serving and entertaining
  • Food-safe oil finish
  • Hand-crafted from urban-sourced tropical hardwood
  • Sustainably sourced: no contribution to deforestation or habitat loss

From chopping board to serving board

The real pleasure of this board is that it moves from the kitchen to the table with you. Use one side for the everyday work of slicing bread, herbs, fruit and vegetables. Then turn it over, and the clean side becomes a warm, natural platter for the table.

It is a natural fit for the way Singapore likes to entertain at home: long weekend brunches, a cheese board before dinner, a spread of cold cuts and fruit for friends dropping by. Wood softens a table set with stoneware and glass, and it photographs beautifully too.

Styling tips from our Tanglin Mall team

  • Build a grazing board. Arrange two or three cheeses, charcuterie, grapes, figs and a little bowl of olives directly on the serving side. Leave a little of the wood showing between each group so the board looks generous, not crowded.
  • Pair wood with blue and white. Set the board beside Costa Nova stoneware or blue-and-white serving bowls for a relaxed, Mediterranean table. You'll find plenty of companions in our Serveware collection.
  • Add French cutlery. A set of Laguiole Jean Dubost cheese knives laid across the corner of the board turns a simple platter into a proper cheese course.
  • Let it live on the counter. Between uses, lean the board against the kitchen wall. It adds warmth to a white or marble kitchen and keeps it close at hand.
  • Layer sizes. The boards come in different sizes, so a large board for serving and a smaller one for everyday prep work well together.

A thoughtful gift for anyone who cooks or hosts

If you are looking for a gift that feels personal and lasting, a hand-made board is hard to beat. It suits the home cook, the host who loves a long lunch, newlyweds setting up a kitchen, or a friend moving into a new home. And because it is made from wood sourced in Singapore, it is a gift with a genuinely local story.

Boards are available in a range of sizes and prices, and because each one is unique, stock of each size is limited. See the current selection on the Arthur Zaaro Artisanal Cutting Board page, or browse more kitchen essentials in our Kitchen collection.
